FRESHNESS, BALANCE, AND INTEGRITY
We serve dim sum the way it’s done in Guangdong and Hong Kong: each dish comes out when it’s ready. There’s no fixed order of appetizers, mains, and desserts. Instead, the meal unfolds naturally as you share and taste your way through the dishes at your own pace.
This means every dish reaches you at exactly the right moment, hot, fresh, and with the right texture. It’s not disorganized. It’s authentic. If you have any questions, our staff is always happy to help.
GET TO KNOW THE DISHES
At Royal Garden, we serve over 30 different dim sum. Below you’ll find the classics that show up in every Cantonese dim sum restaurant in Hong Kong and Guangzhou. Get to know them here, and you’ll never feel out of place with a dim sum menu again.
Dim sum falls into three main preparation styles. Steamed dishes are the most traditional and include crowd favorites like har gau, siu mai, and char siu bau. Fried dishes like ham sui gok and char wantan bring crispy texture and bolder flavors. Cheung fun is its own category entirely: fresh rice noodle rolls, soft, silky smooth, and served with sweet soy sauce.
Steamed dishes are the foundation of any dim sum experience and the first thing people use to judge a restaurant.
The ultimate classic. Har gau is a steamed dumpling filled with shrimp and water chestnut, wrapped in a thin, translucent rice flour skin. The folds tell you everything about the chef’s skill. In Hong Kong, a dim sum restaurant is judged first and foremost by the quality of its har gau. It’s always the first thing you order.
Fried dishes bring crunch and bold flavor to the table, and they’re an essential part of any complete dim sum spread.
A deep fried dumpling with shrimp and water chestnut in a crispy, golden brown wrapper. The water chestnut gives the filling a satisfying crunch that makes this one of the most texturally interesting dishes on the dim sum table.
The same style of rice noodle roll as our Sin Har Cheung Fun, but filled with sweet BBQ pork instead. A favorite for anyone who loves the combination of soft and savory.
PRIVATE DINING
We have two private dining rooms that seat anywhere from 8 to 40 guests. Birthday, corporate dinner, private celebration: whatever the occasion, we take care of everything. All you have to do is show up.
